Swindon, Holy Rood : Ledgerstone 2

Rectangular with two upper sides of a triangular pediment
Aligned with South of sanctuary
The classical decoration of incised lines is similar to that of neighbouring floor monuments, but more ornate than that on floor slab 029
Incised Roman V-cut carving of the simple capital letters is incised and rudimentary. All ‘N’s are mirror images, the ‘W’s linked ‘V’s
BLAZON: Over the incised lines of the triangular pediment are further marks which could be a crest. The top part of the inscription is set in the design below the pediment, but above the cornice. Above the main inscription are indecipherable arms
Memorial stone is broken completely below the pediment design; there is another small break leading from this on the lhs. Condition generally poor

Rectangular (?)
North side
The incised Roman V-cut script uses the double V ‘W’ The ‘Q’ in line 3 is unusual. V is used for U (as shown below) but where U is seen below, it is in a different form. In line 8 the G is more florid, as are the numbers 5 & 7 – the latter only as the final number in 1747 and 67. The A of Atkinson in the second part of the inscription is also different.
This memorial is head by a crest
The stone is broken into two pieces so not all the inscription is legible
