Matrices of man and woman and shield within an incised border. Both appear to be praying. All brasses missing.
Condition very worn.

Black stone

The indent of John Thwaites of Denton and Isabella, daughter of Sir William Ryther and Sybil Aldburgh, whose monument is nearby. The brasses have been missing for over 3 and a half centuries. Thwaites was a lawyer who died in 1469. The slab has chamfered edges underneath, indicating that it had been on the top of a tomb chest.

Thomas died July 6th 1789
Aged 5 years.
Sarah Maria
July 21st 1790. Aged 3 years.
Also Maria, their 4th Daughter,
Who died June 22nd 1792.
Aged 12 weeks.

Here lie the Remains of Mr Samuel
And Mrs Sarah Popplewell, late of Harewood.
He continued above thirty Years in the Capacity Of
Steward to Edwin Lascelles Esq., which Office he
Executed with great integrity, and distinguished abilities.
IN HIM
was happily united the loving Husband, the kind Father,
The good Neighbour, and the upright man.
IN HER
the kind Mistress, the tender Mother,
The dutiful wife, and the good woman.
AND IN BOTH
the faithful Friend and sincere Christian.
He died September 22nd A.D.1780 Aged 67 Years.
She died September 21st 1779. Aged 64 Years.
ALSO near this place lies the REMAINS of Samuel, and
John, Sons of Samuel and Anne Popplewell,
And grandsons of the above named Samuel and
Sarah Popplewell, who died in their infancy.
