Translation

In memory of a venerable man RICHARD MIDDLETON Professor of Theology and pastor of this church. Descended from the ancient family of Middleton of Middleton Hall in the County of Westmoreland who from this life unfortunately died on the 16th day of November in the year of our Lord 1641
(The remaining part of the inscription is largely indecipherable and untranslatable although the first part has echoes of Romans V111 v. 38).
